Why is Chhoti Diwali called Narak Chaturdashi? It is believed that on this day, Lord Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, killed a demon named Narakasura. Sri Krishna freed more than 16 thousand women imprisoned in the captivity of Narakasura. Since then, Chhoti Diwali is celebrated as Naraka Chaturdashi.
